With this Eucharist, a couple of my favorite readings. I call them favorite because I find something new in each one of them every time I venture into them. The beggar Lazarus is one of my favorite characters in the Bible, and one of the reasons for that is that he shows how dogs will offer compassion to people even when other people won’t.
And how did the rich man know Lazarus from ever-so-many beggars that might have been around? And in the Epistle, the word “love” is often used, but if you translate that to “compassion”, maybe the point of it and Lazarus’ parable is clear. And it might be clear what people need to do!
Blessed Be!
