With this Eucharist, some powerful lessons. “Marvel not, if the world hate you”, we are told. And indeed truth is truth even if nobody believes it, and a lie is a lie even if everyone believes it. It is far more important that we care about each other and have compassion.
And that is followed by the banquet story. If the people who did come enjoyed it so much, can you imagine how much the people who were originally invited would have gained? And somewhere in here, I see not-well-hidden, an added lesson about sincerity as opposed to the lip service we so often encounter.
